I hurried down to where the Good Army was waiting, and reported on what I had seen at the Saddle and along the perimeter. Based on my information, Megan (with advice from Stacey and Shannon) decided to eschew the original "many false attacks to wear them down" plan and simply mount a straightforward attack. She would take out Sauron with the Miracle token, leaving us to deal with the rest of the forces that were near Sauron. Then we would charge to the top of the hill and hope my information about there not being many Evil on the Saddle was still correct.
After using the Miracle token to take out Sauron, Megan began adding up the Good Army's points. Once we had surpassed the Evil team total, Shannon asked Sauron if he would concede the battle without getting the rest of Good totaled up.
Ryan was very cool about it, and agreed that Good had won the battle.
Hardly had the victory been won than Stacey yelled, "Oooh! I get Otto's Nazgűl Ring!"
I was tempted to ask Megan if I could take the Ring, on the off-hand chance that we might lose and have to do some psyching-out of Chuck. You know—the old, "he didn't have it all day, but he might have it now. But he knows that I know that he knows that I know that, so maybe he doesn't have it. Or does he?" trick. But I decided not to, for two reasons. First, I was dead tired because I'd only had the one fifteen-minute rest all day, and I didn't want the Good team to lose because I couldn't keep up during the charge. And second, I figured the hobbits who'd been carrying the Ring all day deserved the chance to be the ones carrying it during the final battle. So up Mt. Doom we charged.
A freeze was called (I was rather pleased that I had been able to keep within 25 paces, after all), and Jeff was Johnny-on-the-Spot to figure out who was in the combat and who wasn't.
I saw that Chuck had made it to the top, and clearly had some White Hand Orcs with him. I had somebody "hold my space" while I went to shoot some footage of what was going on at the top.
Jeff decided who was in; now it was up to Boromir (again, ably assisted by Shannon) to figure out who to target with the Horn of Boromir token. It turned out that there were only six (out of the original fifty-seven) White Hand Orcs present. But they were still the largest represented group, so the Horn token was used against them.
I learned that Radagast had been the one to call the freeze.
I also got the other side of the "Bard not killing the Menace" story from Chris. It turns out that he was under orders not to take out Joe until after Gandalf had gotten the Fireball token.
While Jeff was overseeing the point totaling of the Evil team, Bill supervised the Good team. I shouted my points down to Shannon, to be sure my points were counted in!
Meanwhile, the Mordor Minister of Information (aka. Scott, the Mouth of Sauron), was assuring everyone that everything was fine, Good was nowhere near the Cracks of Doom…
…and Saruman was keeping his fingers crossed that Evil would be victorious.
